Treasurers Report
Nigel presented details of monthly income and outgoings throughout the 2023-24 season. The net result was that the club have approx. £500 over recovery this year, giving total of about £1,500.
There was discussion about proposals for use of these funds. It was agreed that at this time we should retain it. Should a suitable social event be considered during the year it could be used at that time.
It was noted that the cost of pitch hire is to raise this year by a small amount.
Following the treasurers report Jack Dow spoke of the appreciation the players have for Nigel’s work as treasurer over the years. As a gesture of their appreciation Jack presented Nigel with a gift (Sunderland football shirt) which the players had bought.
Discussion
· Membership – No change was thought necessary due to attendance remaining steady throughout the year.
· Subs – No changes to subs is considered necessary at this time.
Below is a reminder of the process adopted during the AGM of 2022:
“It was agreed that players should be reminded, by personal contact, of their arears after two weeks subs are due. After three weeks of arears the player will not be considered for team selection until the arears are cleared or discussed with Chairman”.
· Rules/Guidance . – Lost balls. Going forward it was decided to adopt the policy that if a ball is lost i.e. kicked out of the grounds and not recoverable, before the game has started, the person responsible is obliged to replace it at personal cost
· WhatsApp Comms – It is felt this works very well, no changes required at this time.
· Team Selection
· it was agreed this is working well. It was recognized that the ‘Maybe’ status presents a challenge for team selection. The effect of removing the ‘Maybe’ option was discussed but was difficult to predict. It was agreed that we should trial removal of the ‘Maybe’ option at some time to determine its effect.
· It was decided that, going forward, players who have ‘Yes’ status but do not turn up to play would be expected to pay the subs for that week.
· Captains – It was felt this has been a positive idea. It should be informal so no player is required to adhere rigidly to a captain’s requests if they do not want to.
· The club will purchase light and Dark bibs which be allocated to any player arriving, that was a ‘Maybe’ at the time of team selection. Those players are expected to wash the bib and return it.
· Kit – The subject of goal keeper gloves was discussed. The gloves that Lewie Bickers has donated to the club were considered to be very good. Lewie offered to purchase two sets of the same gloves on behalf of the club.
AOB – Some discussion around play led to an agreement to re-iterate certain guidances developed in previous years:
· Pitch lines: This can be variable due to the nets and wind. Therefore it should be decided which lines to play to before each game and announced to plays before it starts.
· Offsides: we do not play formal off-side rules. However, forward players are expected to try to adhere to the general principle of offside.
· Social football: We play ‘social football’ which means avoiding overly physical contact where possible e.g. contact sliding tackles, overzealous barging, heavy clashes.
· Playing out: Goal keepers, when in possession of the ball, should not throw or kick ball in a way that bye-passes several of the players on their side. We want all players to have the opportunity to be involved in the game.
